Leslie Boobis As the Trust's Medical Director I visited Shaare Zedek Hospital in 2007 with a delegation of colleagues from City Hospitals Sunderland, accompanied by my older daughter, to benefit from their unique experience of providing an exemplar Accident and Emergency Department in Jerusalem. Shaare Zedek were unstinting in their hospitality, generosity of time and sharing their expertise. From our visit we developed a blueprint for the new A&E department in Sunderland which was finally completed and commissioned in 2017 and incorporating many of the design elements that we gained from our visit to Israel. As a way of expressing my continued thanks to them and particularly to their Director General Jonathan Halevy I am undertaking this ride. This has particular significance to me as in November 2015 I was seriously injured when I was hit by a car whilst cycling. I was extremely fortunate not to have sustained a serious or even fatal head injury and my recovery was helped immensely by training for and undertaking the Prudential Ride 100 in July 2017. It therefore resonates with me to be again in the fortunate position to be well and fit enough once more raise funds for them. Leslie Boobis
