Concert Commemorates Shaare Zedek's 110 Year Anniversary

19/12/2011 | by Shaare Zedek

Over 3,000 people attended a gala evening with leading Israeli musicians Avraham Fried and Rami Klinstein to mark Shaare Zedek Medical Centre’s 110 year anniversary. The evening began with a specially produced film clip chronicling the medical centre’s development since it first opened its doors in 1902. Originally known as a quaint local hospital, today it has grown to become a world renowned centre of medical excellence, treating over 300,000 patients a year.

Avraham Fried, visited the hospital earlier in the year and told the crowd how amazed he was at the dedication invested by the medical staff. Joined by Rami Klinstein they performed many inspiring duets, including ‘My Little Leaf’ which is powerful metaphor detailing the bond between a parent and child and how to overcome life’s challenges.

A former patient then joined the stage which proved to be emotionally charged. The story of Aryeh Greenblatt began over 10 years ago, when he was diagnosed with a potentially terminal disease and the only option was to undergo a bone marrow transplant from his infant son. He told the audience how indebted he was to Shaare Zedek and then introduced his now 12 year old son. A couple of years after the operation, he and his wife decided that they wanted to expand their family and unable to conceive naturally, they underwent IVF treatment at Shaare Zedek which was successful. He then invited his wife and daughter to the stage to rapturous applause, completing a remarkable and in many ways miraculous story of how Shaare Zedek has changed lives.
